Maintenance Check
Belts & Hoses
Check for cracks in belts and soft areas on hoses. Listen for squealing sounds while driving and check for fluid leaks from hoses.
Battery
Check electrolyte level and make sure all the connections are tight and clean with no corrosion. Check battery date code; replace if over 4 years old.
Lubricants
Check oil level on the dipstick with vehicle level and engine not running for at least 5 minutes. Check transmission fluid on the dipstick with vehicle level and engine running in park, after at least 10 miles of driving.
Power Steering
Check fluid level in the reservoir dipstick; look for “hot” and “cold” marks, as appropriate.
Windshield
Change wiper blades, if worn or stiff. Fill windshield wiper fluid reservoir with washer fluid.
Brakes
Check for pulling to one side, scraping/squealing sounds, and fluid leaks. Check fluid level in master cylinder; should be within a quarter inch below the top of the cylinder housing.
Cooling System
Check antifreeze level with engine cold; have system flushed if fluid appears dirty.
